PYLON DC supports your equipment inside any colocation facility in Northern Virginia — Ashburn, Sterling, Reston, Manassas, and the greater DMV. We don’t own data centers and we don’t sell space, which means we have no reason to steer you anywhere. Our only job is making your footprint work once you’re in it.

Most colocation providers offer remote hands for their own facilities, at their own rates, on their own schedule. We work across all of them, so your support doesn’t change when your footprint does.

Colocation in Northern Virginia: What Tenants Are Actually Dealing With

Northern Virginia is routinely ranked the largest data center market in the world, and the densest part of it sits within about twenty miles of Ashburn. Loudoun County’s “Data Center Alley” anchors the region, with major campuses running north through Sterling and west toward Leesburg, plus growing inventory in Manassas, Chantilly, Herndon, and Prince William County.

For a tenant, that concentration cuts both ways. There is more choice here than anywhere else on earth — and more competition for power, longer lead times on new capacity, and pricing that moves depending on how much contiguous power you need and how soon. AI and high-density compute have made that worse: cabinets that would have drawn 5–8 kW a few years ago are now specified at 20 kW and beyond, and not every facility that will sell you the space can actually deliver the power to it.

What surprises most people is the part after the lease is signed. You have a cage or a set of cabinets in a building you do not staff, forty minutes from your office in good traffic, and every physical task — a drive swap, a fibre run, a new switch — needs someone on site who knows what they are looking at.

What Your Facility’s Remote Hands Will and Won’t Cover

Every colocation provider sells remote hands, and for what it is designed to do it works well: a reboot at 2am, a tape swap, walking a vendor to your cage. It is staffed for short, bounded tasks against an SLA clock.

Where it tends to run out is anything that takes hours rather than minutes, or anything that requires knowing your environment rather than following an instruction:

• Multi-day builds. A cage buildout or a twelve-cabinet deployment is not a ticket. Facility techs are being pulled away by SLA-bound work the whole time.
• Cable plant remediation. Untangling a plant three tenants deep is careful, unglamorous work that nobody wants to schedule against a response-time clock.
• Anything requiring context. “Swap the failed drive in bay 4” is a remote hands task. “Work out why this node keeps dropping off the fabric” is not.
• Work that spans facilities. A migration touches two buildings and two providers. Neither one’s remote hands desk owns the whole thing.
• Documentation. Ticket closure notes are not as-built drawings, rack elevations, or a port map you can hand to the next engineer.

Common Questions

Do you sell colocation space?

No. We do not own data centers, lease space, or resell anyone’s capacity, and we take no referral fee from any facility. That is deliberate — it is the only way a recommendation about where to put your equipment can be trusted.

Which facilities do you work in?

Any of them. Equinix, Digital Realty, QTS, CloudHQ, Aligned, Iron Mountain, and the regional operators. Because we are not tied to a provider, your support arrangement does not have to change when your footprint does.

How is this different from the remote hands my provider already sells?

Facility remote hands is built for short tasks against an SLA. We take on the work that does not fit that shape: buildouts, cabling remediation, migrations, decommissions, and anything needing familiarity with your environment rather than a one-line instruction.

What does colo sourcing cost?

Nothing. Tell us your power, space, and connectivity requirements and we will point you at the facilities that fit, usually within two business days. If you want us to run the search, review contracts, or project-manage a build-out, that becomes a scoped engagement with a written statement of work.

How quickly can you get someone on site?

Our staging lab is in Falls Church, roughly twenty minutes from Ashburn outside of rush hour, and we keep on-call coverage for after-hours and weekend work. Scheduled work is booked around your facility’s access and escort requirements.

Can you work with our existing provider or MSP?

Yes, and we often do. We do not sell managed services, licensing, or support contracts, so we are not a route into your account. The relationship stays where it is.
