Staging & Imaging

Staging & Imaging

We pre-configure systems before they hit the rack. From imaging servers to applying security patches and updates, we ensure that everything arrives production-ready. Save time, reduce errors, and simplify remote deployments. PYLON DC operates a fully equipped staging lab in Falls Church, VA, purpose-built for preparing enterprise hardware at scale before it ships to your data center.

Why the Work Belongs Off-Site

Install windows are short, escorted, and expensive. A data center floor is a poor place to discover that a server shipped with three-year-old firmware, that the RAID controller needs a settings change before the OS will see the disks, or that one unit out of twenty arrived dead. Each of those is a fifteen-minute fix on a bench and a lost afternoon in a cold aisle — often with a facility escort billing by the hour beside you.

Staging inverts that. Equipment arrives at our Falls Church lab, gets built and validated where the tools and spares are, and reaches the facility in a state where install day is genuinely install: rack it, cable it, power it, verify, done. Failures surface in the lab, while there is still time to RMA without touching your deployment schedule.

What We Do

  • Dedicated Staging Lab: Our Falls Church facility features professional workbenches, 3-phase power, gigabit network connectivity, and climate-controlled storage — giving us the capacity to stage dozens of devices simultaneously.
  • OS Imaging & Deployment: We image servers, workstations, and appliances with your approved operating system builds, including Windows Server, Linux distributions, VMware ESXi, and custom images provided by your team.
  • Security Patches & Updates: Every staged device receives the latest security patches, firmware updates, and driver installations before leaving our facility — reducing your attack surface from day one.
  • Application & Configuration Pre-Load: We install and configure applications, agents, monitoring tools, and management software per your specifications, so devices are fully operational when they reach the rack.
  • Remote Access for Client Oversight: We provide secure remote access (VPN, KVM-over-IP, or remote desktop) so your engineering team can verify configurations, run tests, and approve builds without traveling to our lab.
  • Production-Ready Deployment: When staging is complete, devices are labeled, packaged, and delivered directly to your data center — ready for immediate rack-and-stack with zero additional configuration required on site.
  • Asset Tagging & Documentation: Every device is logged with serial numbers, MAC addresses, firmware versions, and configuration details. You receive a complete manifest before deployment.
  • Burn-In & Validation Testing: Staged equipment undergoes extended burn-in testing to verify stability under load, catching potential failures before they reach your production environment.

What Ships From the Lab

Every unit leaves in a known, documented state:

  • Firmware and BIOS to a baseline. Fleets drift the moment they ship at different times. We bring BIOS, BMC/iDRAC/iLO, RAID, and NIC firmware to one agreed revision so behaviour is consistent across the batch.
  • Golden image applied and verified. Your image, deployed and booted, not just written to disk.
  • Out-of-band configured. Management IP, credentials, and network access set before it leaves, so the first thing you can do on the floor is reach it remotely.
  • Burn-in under load. Sustained CPU, memory, and disk exercise long enough to surface the infant-mortality failures that a five-minute POST will not.
  • Asset captured. Serial, MAC addresses, asset tag, and configuration recorded into a manifest that ships with the batch and imports into your CMDB.
  • Packed for the destination. Labeled by rack and U position, so receiving does not become a sorting exercise on the floor.
